Dale Earnhardt Jr: LIVE Coverage, Video, Plane crash in east Tennessee

LIVE Coverage: Retired NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife Amy and 1-year-old daughter has survived a small plane crash in east Tennessee.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Crash: The Federal Aviation Administration stated that a Cessna Citation rolled off the end of a runway and caught fire after landing around 3:40 p.m. Also, The Carter County Sheriff’s Office stated to NBC affiliate WCYB of Bristol as the family and two pilots were on a small plane that crashed in east Tennessee at Elizabethton Municipal Airport.

Kelley Earnhardt Miller confirmed on Twitter that family was on board, “Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation”

A co-owner of Earnhardt’s racing team, JR Motorsports. “We have no further information at this time. Thank you for your understanding.”

NBC Sports said in a statement to The Associated Press, “We’re incredibly grateful that Dale, his wife Amy, daughter Isla, and the two pilots are safe following today’s accident, After being discharged from the hospital, we communicated with Dale and his team, and we’re all in agreement that he should take this weekend off to be with his family.”

Firefighters at the airport said they were “burning off” excess fuel that spilled at the airport, but it didn’t pose an environmental threat.

For those who don’t know, The third-generation driver Earnhardt Jr. retired from NASCAR in 2017 and has since been working as an analyst and commentator. Also, Earnhardt’s family is very popular in NASCAR as Earnhardt Sr. – a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, and his grandfather Ralph Earnhardt, the 1956 NASCAR Sportsman champion. Earnhardt Sr. is one of the most popular names in all of racing. He died at the 2001 Daytona 500 in a crash. Just three years later, His son won the Daytona title at the same speedway.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Crash: Carrier said at a news conference that Earnhardt Jr. and his family was lucky that the exit door was not blocked.

You can read Carrier statement here, “The fence wrapped around the airplane, and there’s a section there that the fence is wrapped around the plane, If that would have been where the door was, there would have been a lot more difficult for them to get the door open. So it looks like everything worked in their favor instead of against them.”

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating and will determine the probable cause of the accident.
